This morning the weather was rough! Strong winds and the threat of rain that made the decision to ditch bootcamp and go hiking so much easier!!!
We live at the foot of a small peak overlooking our beautiful village and our decision to hike up the slopes and over the top of the mountain was so, so rewarding.
The first section was steep and the winds had tossed some dead tree debris across our path, but it was easily cleared making a way for us to get to the old blockhouse on top of the peak.
Every time we gather we take an “attendance photo” so here’s what we looked like today! It’s always a jumbled lot of odd balls that mix and match as the days go by. But the option to join our group is open to anyone who would like to get fit and find community. We just all happen to also like hiking and nature too.
All cares of looking good tend to go out the window when we hike. The aim is to stay alive, stay warm and get fitter. Today that meant wearing a buff over my ears and hat 1. To keep warm and 2. To stop my hat from blowing away in the strong winds.
Just a few of the beauties we saw on the mountain…
Blue Gladiolus my favourite of the day
It’s almost Spring and our flower season has had a wonderful start. It’s such a blessing to be able to spot such gems on our doorstep.
I used to have Pink and red gladioli growing in my garden in my previous home and I’d love to have these blue Gladioli in my new garden. They’re so gorgeous!!
But the views over our village with sun beaming through the threatening clouds was just glorious. Crazily only 40 minutes later it was bucketing down with rain and hail so we managed to get outside at just the right moment.
The walk back to our starting point was quieter as our group thinned out as soon wandered off in different directions and others popped straight home. But we all navigated the steep hill down through the trees with the rope swing where the kids played.
In a week or two the flowers will be even more exciting and I’ll head up the peak again for another slower browse of it’s floral beauty.
Have a wonderful weekend…
