Easy-Peasy Squeezy

'My main squeeze.'

My husband and I were wandering through the town of Tamworth in Staffordshire, and I spotted this robust equipment in the window display of a thrift shop.

It's as heavy as lead, 6.5 kg in weight, and when we inspected it, the seller timidly justified the price as a gift aid item. However, we knew that £15 was a pennyworth for a main squeeze.

You see, we're both into homemade freshly squeezed juices, for the taste and health benefits, so we figured that since we both love the sweet, tart, and bitter taste of grapefruit juice, this manual operating equipment would serve its purpose on the boat.

I like that there are few moving parts, which means fewer things to break, and it's easy to use.

It's to be noted that it's a squeezer, which acts differently from a juicer, in that the squeezer produces juice that is thicker and tastier because it's not diluted. This makes the juice healthier since all the nutrients are unaltered.

I mainly juice grapefruit since it's my favourite juice. However, oranges, clementines, and just other any other fruit would be as perfect, as the size of a half-grapefruit.

I got the idea to try a leftover beetroot and some tomatoes.
They did not work well.
Yes, I got a hint of both flavours (kind of like a restaurant experience, where you most times get hints of flavours only). However, I need to remind myself that the manufacturer clarified that this is a fruit squeezer, so there's no deception there.

I like a bit of a bulb in my juices, and after squeezing the grapefruit, this is what it looks like. Hubby and I figured that in the summertime we could then chop up the remains and use them for water bottle infusers.

This equipment is heavy-duty and great for a restaurant setting, so can you imagine how efficient it is for me on my boat?
I can have a full glass of tasty grapefruit juice with my breakfast in just minutes.

This is how simple it is to use.

  1. Place equipment on the counter.
  2. Cut grapefruit in half.
  3. Place half a grapefruit in the receptacle
  4. Place a glass for the juice receiver.
  5. Pull down the lever.
  6. Discard pulp
  7. Insert the second half of the grapefruit and repeat the steps.

It's a no-fuss piece of equipment that requires no maintenance, just a quick rinse of the receptacle.

It took 2 grapefruits to fill this jar. That required me to pull and release the lever four times, and voila!

This was the grapefruit with the tomatoes and beetroot. There's a slight difference in the colour of the plain grapefruit, so it worked to an extent.

However, to maximise the equipment's fullest potential, it's best to stick to its intended purpose of squeezing fruit.

The brand is Lumaland Stainless Steel Fruit Juicer if you're looking for a specialised fruit squeezer that's robust and efficient.

The RRP seems to be anywhere from £75 to £150.

So, tell me, are you a juice lover? The price for a single grapefruit is £0.49. To make this jar that I'm holding is £0.98 (for 2 grapefruit)—no additives, no preserves, no concentration, just the good ole' juice.

If this was within your budget, wouldn't it be worth a purchase, even at the full price?

Good morning dear friend @millycf1976 how are you?
How great that you found this fruit juicer, it looks robust and resistant, best of all it is functional and makes a lot of natural juice.
Without a doubt you and your husband will enjoy it for a long time.
Have a lovely day

Hey @jlufer
Yes, we're happy with this equipment in many ways... being manual and because we get quality juice in a jiffy, is better than any of the juices in supermarkets:)

This is a perfect buy and it would definitely serve very much since you and hubby love fresh juice a lot. It's my first time since a squeezer really because what I have encountered most is the juicer and it's powered by electricity.

I love the fact that this can be used manually and the quality of your juice remains intact. I bet you will be enjoying this for a long time, cheers to a beautiful week.

Thanks, George!

I'm so thrilled with this, and if things were different, I'd probably have a small fresh juice business where I could sell juice to niche clients.
Wishing you a great week ahead too:)))

Now you can easily make fresh juice ☺️

Exactly! I still think it was my lucky day to find that manual juice squeezer. A guy saw us with it at the pub and said he planned to buy it.
#YouSnoozeYouLose 😂

I juice 6 days a week with my sturdy Greenstar slow juicer, 14 years old and still as fit for purpose as myself! I wish you many hours of drinking pleasure.

WoW! I looked up the Greenstar juicer. It looks amazing!
I will keep that brand in mind too. It might not work for me, but if someone needs an electric one, I could recommend it.

I wish you many hours of drinking pleasure.

Thank you, and you too 😊🤗

Thank you so much @hive-up and the team.
Much appreciated:)))

My pleasure:)))

Oh that is so neat! Lucky you and may it bring you many lovely treats! I love beetroot juice, too, though trust my electric juicer to juice it. Don't know how I'd go about it otherwise. 🤔 Big freshly-squeezed fan. I'm astounded whenever I go out to a cafe or restaurant and see a tiny glass going for $5.

Heya!
Yeah, it's a pretty neat tool to us too 😁, and I no longer use my other hand juicer, which requires me to spin the fruit around the blades.
No kiddin' about the expense of freshly squeezed juices. Way over-priced here in the UK and it's even worse in developing countries like Jamaica and the Philippines, even though we grow more oranges in Jamaica than what I saw in the Philippines.
Also, we were surprised to be charged extra for fresh OJ at an all-inclusive hotel in Egypt.😏

Your analysis at the end with the prices is quite economical and I love it.

The finished product is cost efficient, gets more than your money's worth with the potent and healthy packed freshly squeezed juice.

Not to mention it's homemade so you are sure of its content. There was a time this equipment was heavily marketed in my country, I had wanted to get one because I love homemade fruit squeeze too.

During my pregnancy and nursing days, the grape fruit in my compound cried lol.

At a point, the ripe fruits started falling in a lot of quantity. Little did we know that the tree was dying. But I took advantage of the situation and had freshly squeezed grape juice for morning, afternoon and evening in a little jar.

Speaking of the equipment, I had wanted to get one but the reviews threw me off as it stated that I needed a lot of strength to work the machine plus I won't even get a reasonable amount of juice in the end.

Coming across your post, I don't want to believe that I have been deceived or possibly they had expected it to play the role of a juicer and used it for fruits not meant for squeezing like you hinted at the post with the beet root and the tomato...

Or possibly the squeezed fruit had not much juice in it... Well, I'm doing a lot of what ifs at this point.

Anyway, moving on... I would be on the look out if I can still purchase it 🙂

No, the point is that this equipment is a squeezer, not a food processor or a juicer where you might add water. So you have to use fruit that has a watery content to extract.

Yeah, got it 👍🏿

What a stellar bargain! I love when I can purchase something that would improve my life for a fraction of its original cost 😍 finds like this are why I love thrifting!

The easy clean up and efficiency are fantastic too. I used to bartend in a spot that offered freshly squeezed OJ for brunch, but that used an electronic juicer... Holy moly, that thing was a nightmare to clean! I'd have preferred something like this instead.

I think it's an added bonus that you can reuse the rinds in the summer months, and enjoy some liquid sunshine in the colder ones. I bet this makes your whole boat smell like citrus and happiness 💚 💃

The easy clean up and efficiency are fantastic too

💯% I smile every time I have to clean it. Just a quick rinse and it's good to go again. That's one of the best parts!

You're right about the scent... Citrusy notes are my fav, so it's a bonus too.

Cheers:)))
