Homage to the mothers

in #hive-1244522 years ago

I have been debating in what community to publish this post and eventually decided that #LadiesOfHive was the most appropriate. this is my first post in this community.

last year, about this time of year, as I was homeschooling my son, his grandmother on his mother´s side passed away. it all happened very quickly. from a healthy strong woman to her being gone happened in a blink of an eye. he joined his mother and was there around his grandmother as she passed.

a few months later an idea was forming in my head. personally I was always very connected to my mother and my two grandmothers. I carry beautiful memories from all three of them. my idea was to pay homage to our mothers and grandmothers here on the farm, planting a tree in the memory of each with a sign bearing their names.

the idea was warmly accepted and the project was put in action.
first thing we did was to build a Hokora, a small Shinto shrine to be the spiritual center where we sometimes sit, burn incense and remember.

This post reminds me of a post that was recently published by @trouvaille about a tradition of visiting the cemeteries to honor the ancestors. https://ecency.com/hive-146620/@trouvaille/visit-day

Tamar is the name of my late mother. Maca is how my son started calling her in some point. sadly she was gone long before he was born and he never knew her.

two of the signs are ready to be planted along side their corresponding trees.
paint applied to the grooves.

two other signs, still need to be made in memory of my two grandmothers.
sanding any excess paint.

time to clean up the mess.

nearly there.

one hand of Linseed oil to protect the sign from the elements.

It was begging me for some color !

a funny anecdote:
when my son was born, we lived in a small village in Mallorca. the village had two traditional guardians. two giants. Cabrit and Bassa.
they spent most their lives in the entrance to the city hall and were only taken out and walked around in special village holidays.
my son freaked out the first time we took him to see them, as they are about 5m. tall. later he got used to them.
Bassa happens to also be the name of his
grand grandmother on his mother´s side.
long before we thought of our project, we have planted two giant Bamboos on the farm and without thinking twice made signs for each after our beloved giants. so there is already a Bassa sign out there.

What a sentimental way to keep and meditate on your memories of your grandmother.
It looks like a tranquil place to do so.

Thank you !!

What a great idea to pay tribute to mothers and grandmothers! My best memories from childhood are connected with my grandparents and they had a big importance in my life... It's a pity that mine died early, but I'm glad that my son still has all 4 grandparents!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic and the creative process!

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!
