Land UpDate - More Building And Digging (OutDoor Bath And Compost Toilet)

in #hive-1230463 years ago

I have been super busy these last few weeks, since I moved onto the land. Making the place more like home. It feels so good to have space to be creative and although I still have some work to do, I wanted to share what I have done so far. If you read the post I wrote when I first moved here, you would remember that I had plans for an outdoor bath.

I picked a lovely spot next to a young olive tree, situated between the truck and the caravan. I had already left the bath there, before I had even moved the truck on. First up, I needed to build a small u shaped wall for the bath to sit on. You can see it above. I need it to be U shape so that there is space in the middle, for the paella cooker. I also put a small wall surrounding the outlet as I want the outlet to be protected from the cooker.

I elevated the cooker on some rocks, as it is important for it to touch the base of the bath. You can kind of see that in the picture above. After that, it was time to be creative and make a nice area around the bath. This is where pallets come in handy. As the help to create a designated space and also work really well if you want some privacy.

I used 6 pallets in total, tying them together and also reinforcing them using poles which I hammered into the earth. I have a wonderful Yellow umbrella which acts as a sunshade and also for some privacy. I'm pretty happy to be in the bath under the open sky, but my two elder girls do like a bit more privacy. I recycled the wooden panels that are on the ground, which add to the ambience I think.

Top that off with some of my plants, Spider plants, Aloe Vera, Rosemary and fern and it is almost perfect. I love being surrounded by green and seeing all my plants surrounding the bath makes me very happy. It also makes it really easy to water them. When I was moving, a few people commented about all my plants, asking if I really needed them. Well, yes I do and look at how good they look right now. I plan, to add some bamboo to the back pallets once I can source some.

As I write this, my hands are a little sore after spending the day digging. This very impressive hole above is for our Compost Toilet. After chatting with a friend, who will come tomorrow to help me start the build, I decided to dig away some of the land on one of the terraces, so that the ground itself can act as a support for the building. This way I do not need as much materials to construct it. and also no steps will be needed to get into it.

Freya, was my constant companion as I worked on this today. I am not such a big fan of digging up the ground, but it is fascinating to see the different layers of earth, how they change in colour. I have moved the topsoil, over near the truck, so that I can us it in my garden, which is next on my list of things to do. I do enjoy digging though, it is such a wonderful workout. My body certainly feels well worked, that is for sure!

Tomorrow will be another busy day, but not so physical and in the evening I am having a wee gathering, to celebrate my move. Food and music, make for a wonderful combination and the perfect way to celebrate new beginnings.

an umbrella plant bath warmed by a paella cooker. Sounds like heaven to me ;^)

Great work, amiga

xx

Thanks Vincent, I am really happy with it and it's so nice to bathe outside xxxx

:<)

and it's so nice to bathe outside

Sounds heavenly to me!

I have so much admiration for you and your living creation. This is real life at it's finest. I would consider this a dream situation.
All the best to you.

Ah thank you @carolynstahl , I am very happy with my life. All the best to you too xxxx

I'm loving your creativity!! The outdoor bath turned out so well, like something from a boutique hotel. Well done 👏

Thanks, Mo Chara xxxx

That bath looks great! Though doesn't it ever get cold?

Yes it does get cold, but I really like being outside in a hot bath when the air is cold. xxxx

Oh yes, good point!

Oh I love it! How much more beautiful with your plants. I can't believe anyone would ask if you really need to take plants with you? Our first year here we had a fire bath. But as the parents moved to the homestead it was replaced by indoor bathing as it was under the stars and the fire draws attention. I miss it.

Yes they thought I should give some away, but I didn't want to, I love my plants.
I hope one day you get to have another fire bath xxxxx

Wow that's a big ass hole!! You dug it on your own? Impressive!

Haha, muscle power, my shoulders and back felt it, but I actually enjoy digging, I find my rhythm and sing and it becomes meditative. I hope all is well, will chat with you soon xxxxx

I hope all is well, will chat with you soon xxxxx

Cheers! I've got Telegram back, I didn't have a phone for a week it felt good!

This is looking great! What a nice place to relax you're making for yourself, very happy for you. Wish you all that empowered energy to keep making awesome stuff over there.

Thanks so much @fenngen, it feels really good to be building, I have really enjoyed watching you build these last few months. Sending you a huge hug xxxxx

This is so awesome! There is this company in Switzerland I am a huge fan of called kompotoi and they make these amazing toilets. Always liked these kinds of ideas a lot.

Always imagining to detach myself from certain things, because I am so drawn to this kind of lifestyle.

I missed the post that you finally moved onto the land. You seem very happy there. Lovely bath, so good you kept your plants. Enjoy and congrats!

Thank you @owasco, yes finally it happened xxxxx

Oh, I loooove it! You have made the bath place so amazingly beautiful! I mean, wow!
And this is a seriously big hole!
Have a wonderful celebration! You totally deserve it!

Ah thanks so much @traisto xx. My celebration had to be postponed as finally the rain came, but I did go dancing on Friday, which was so good xxxxx

Rain is not so often in our places, so it is always welcome, right?
Glad you are having a good time!

What a magnificent bath-haven you're creating...!! Amazing work, my dear. Lovely to see you putting self-care high on the agenda... and I see some wonderful herbal bath concoction posts in your future.

Sending love. x

Thank you @artemislives and yes herbal bath salts next, there are so many amazing herbs growing wild around here xxxx

I love your new bath. It is very beautiful with all the plants around it and the fence/wall is a great idea.
When I lived on the beach in El Salvador we had an outdoor shower, which I absolutely loved and miss it. At night time you can see all the stars and the moon while you are taking a cooling shower.
Love your creativity and your new home is really coming beautifully.

Thanks @joalvarez, I would love to live on the beach again for a while, but the mountains keep me here for now. I hope you are keeping well xxxx

Wow, your outdoor bath looks amazing 😍 I understand there's a lot of work but I'm happy to hear you feel so inspired 🙂

Enjoy the celebration 🎉

Thanks Beautiful xxxx

Awesome! your bath looks amazing already, and you've just assembled it! I'm sure once you've been adding to it bamboo and whatnot it will look really fantastic!

A paella cooker... interesting. So it's a gas heated bath, I take it. I once had the pleasure to enjoy an outdoor bath like this, but it was wood heated. Needless to say, you had to reach out occasionally and put another log onto the fire under the tub. Not with yours though.

I'm also pretty psyched at reading about your digging the composting toilet, as I know I will be doing something like this pretty soon (again).

Also, I feel happy to see you have arrived at your new place, and are turning it into a home. Keep the cool posts coming!

Thank you @stortebeker, I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to be creative. The compost toilet is on hold now until I get more materials. But the foundation and floor is in.
Make sure to share your build as well, when it happens, I'd love to see it xxxx

Oh for sure... most certainly I will share the progress as it comes along. But that is also an issue riddled with question marks. However, in the meantime digestion won't stop, so the composting toilet at least I can guarantee will be completed right away.
