Sprouting Success
Sprouts are incredibly healthy, they’re easy to “grow” on your kitchen counter. Basically, you can sprout any legume, nuts and certain grains and cereals. There’s no room to be boring and your palate will thank you once it gets a taste for the freshest zing it has ever had.
List of possibles
Grains - barley, wheat, and spelt.
Legumes - lentils, peas, and pinto, kidney, and lima beans.
Radish and broccoli seeds.
Once you start sprouting you’ll find it addictive and begin experimenting with new and varied starters. However, I love my mung beans, and they’re a fantastic addition to stir fries, soups and salads. When you’ve got a ready supply you’re going to find yourself adding them to all kinds of dishes, and it’s going to be fun.
Now, the big thing is that you don’t have to go out and buy a purpose built sprouter, no you don’t! You probably have everything in your kitchen right now to build one out of waste plastic. Yes, that’s right, you can save the planet at the same time, now that’s a win, isn’t it.
I make my sprouters out of used soda bottles and they work very well :- Here’s the plan.
Sprouter
_cut two soda bottles in half. You’re only going to use the bottom half, but the top makes a great funnel (more win)
_ punch holes in one half at the base.
_assemble your creation by plugging the punched part on top of the solid base. Voila! A sprouter
To make your sprouts
_ First soak them in the unpunched, solid part of the sprouter for 6-8 hours
_Then assemble the sprouter. Add beans (or whatever) to the top half and pour water over them, let the water drain out of the holes. The beans should still be slightly moist.
_water them in this way twice or three times daily until they’re sprouted to the length that you prefer.
_You can set the sprouter up next to your kitchen sink so that you don’t forget to water them. Some people believe that you should put the sprouter in a dark cupboard, but I’ve never had a problem when leaving them on my sink.
So there you have it, a DIY Sprouter, par excellence. Now get cooking, imagine all those yummy stir fries you can make ! ❤️💕🤗
PS: These sprouters are so useful and practical, please don’t make only one; make them for all your friends and family. It’s a fabulous gift.
