Grain Run, Harvests, Glass Studio Gas Lines, Sunset - Thursday

in #hive-1230462 years ago

4:30 am alarm yesterday had me on the road before 5:00 and in town picking up grain. I had 4 barrels to load on the trailer in the dark of the morning and I was back on the farm by 6:00.

Chilly feeling mornings now as we are getting to the low 40s F and even high 30s last night.

Before dumping the barrels in the sheep pen I shoveled a bunch out and tossed it into the turkey pen. The spent a lot of the day milling about it and scratching and pecking around it.

The girls all came into the sheep pen while I was emptying the rest of the barrels and once again they were unable to figure out how to jump over the fence later in the day. I lifted it up and ushered them under it.

Everyone came running for the grain and soon the piles were covered with animals and birds.

15 pounds from the squash for the day and while putting it all away I checked every box of the 12 in the cooler, each with 20 pounds of squash, and made sure that everyone of them was good for delivery this morning. 200 pounds went and now I only have 40 pounds left, the cooler has room finally.

Once I had the squash sorted I headed to North 40 for gas line parts. After an hour shopping trip I got back and got the oxygen concentrators hooked up to the Y and then it is hooked up to the oxygen line that runs to the studio.

It was a bit of work to get everything pieced together and I had to do some searching for other parts in the garden shed to make it all work.

The gas runs out of the house and into the T where it then runs to the generator just to the right and then into the gas line for the studio.

I had just the right pieces to hook it all up and the generator is now plumbed back in. Once I turn on the section of line I will use my gas sniffer to check for leaks everywhere. Rather handy tool to have around the house.

In the later afternoon I got the truck hooked up to the trailer and loaded up the empty barrels as one of the other breweries had some grain to pickup this morning.

The cucumbers may have had their peak last week with the record days but they are still producing and I pulled 31vfrom the plants.

I turned around and picked the tomatoes which had another 4 pounds, plus R picked a half pound earlier.

The sunset was wild since there are fires to the west at the base of the cascades, plus others around the region. It made for rather dramatic looking colors. I wish the phone could capture the contrasts of the sunset better. The second shot did a bit better. I didn't have time to head up the hill to get a shot but I am figuring tonight will be much the same for sunset.

Labels all got slapped on the 10 boxes of squash that I took to the co-op this morning and I had them ready to load.

I finally got out to soak but found myself getting out early so I could read in my lampworking book.

I have been to town and got grain, dropped off the 200 pounds of squash at the co-op, emptied the barrel of grain, and now I get to go pick. I have the laminate all out and will try to get the walls up today so I can put the studio together for good. I want to grill but will probably do so in the little brick stove to reduce the fuel needed.
