"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" they say. It's not lemons in this case, but it's about pre seasoned shoarma meat. Every so often we check the shelves for deals and discounted products and base our menu for the day on those. On one of those days we came across packages of pre seasoned chicken shoarma and decided to prepare pita that day.
When we buy pre seasoned meat, we often enhance the flavors with more ingredients we have at home, knowing that stores keep the seasonings to a minimum, taking into account dietary restrictions of the general population. We added ketoembar (coriander), garlic powder, black and white pepper and pepper powder from Suriname. We also had some pre sliced fries in the refridgerator.
We also bought a crop of lettuce, tomatoes, half baked pitas and red onions for its distinct taste. We proceeded to dice the onions and tomatoes and pulled the pickled jalapenos out of our pantry. In the oven the pita went to bake further and fried the potatoes in meantime. The shoarma also went on the stove for a few minutes until done.
When everything was done, we seasoned the fries and cut the pita in half. It was then time for the fun part: assemble one's own pita. One of us doesn't eat lettuce, so only used onions, tomatoes, jalapenos and the shoarma. The other used lettuce, onions, tomatoes and a little of the garlic sauce. After that in went the shoarma and then a little onion, tomatoes and jalapenos and again with the garlic sauce.
The fries and some extra chicken shoarma was then plated next to the pita. It was bon appétit after that. The meal was whole, savory and creamy. The strong flavors were well balanced. Though we enjoyed the treat, we know it's food for once in a while.
