"Food is a great communicator, connecting generations and helping build memories and friendships. It gathers us together and teaches us the importance of sharing not just food, but ourselves."-Rachael Ray
My warmest greetings to one and all especially to this wonderful community. Hope everybody is fine and doing great!
One of my struggles is to decide what to cook for the meal. A meal that all will enjoy and nourish us.
A meal that will definitely be suitable to our budget as well especially since the opening of classes is fast approaching and we need to buy school supplies for our kids. Proper budgeting this time really matters. Every centavo counts😊.
It was a beautiful day, my husband and I went to the market to buy a viand and we were undecided then what to purchase.
At the wet Market
We saw fresh displays of fish, sea shells, crabs, shrimps, squids, etc. Upon seeing those, I planned something to prepare.
What we had bought then?
We bought pusit (squids) and fish. We bought 1/2 kilo of pusit worth PHP 130 and 1/2 kilo of fish worth PHP 100 a total of PHP 230 or 4.8 USD approximately. This was already a whole day's meal for the four of us.
How do we prepare our fish?
The easy way of preparing the fish is to make it fried. No spices needed just a little bit of cooking oil and salt.
The Procedure
Step 1. Wash the fish first and remove its guts and gills and wash again.
Step 2. Put the washed fish in a container and put salt on it.
Step 3. Prepare the frying pan and set to medium heat and add the cooking oil.
Step 4. Put the fish and fry. Let the first side cook and turn to the other side when it is already brown.
Step 5. When it is cooked. Put it on a plate and serve. This can be served paired with sauce.
How to Cook the Pusit?
First, prepare the ingredients. I only had simple ingredients that everyone could see and find in their humble kitchen.
The Ingredients
1/2 kilo of Pusit
2 medium size of spring onions
5 cloves of garlic
2 to 3 tbsp. of cooking oil
Salt
The Procedure
Step 1. Prepare the casserole and set the fire to medium heat.
Step 2. Add the cooking oil and wait until it started to bubble meaning it's hot already.
Step 3. Add the sliced garlic and onions and saute.
Step 4. When the garlic and onions started to cook, add the Pusit and mix.
Step 5. Add the salt to taste and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes to let the pusit meat soften.
Step 6. Add 1/2 cup of water if you wanted a little soup and let it boil for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 7. Get the ladle and try to taste a little bit of the soup to check if the texture is perfect or need to add salt
Step 8. When it is done. You can transfer it to the plate and serve.
