Homemade Aloe Vera Body and Hair Lotion

in #hive-1200789 months ago

Winter tends to dry my skin due to the cold temperature, low humidity, and indoor heating. I've formulated a simple aloe vera lotion to nourish my skin and hair, and I would love to share it with you.

Aloe vera is often referred to as a "plant pharmacy" due to its wide array of medicinal properties and uses. It helps promote wound healing, soothe skin irritations, provide immediate relief from sunburn with its cooling properties, and hydrate the skin without leaving it feeling greasy.

Additionally, its antimicrobial properties can help reduce acne breakouts and minimize the appearance of scars by promoting skin tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation. When consumed orally, the juice may also help with digestive issues such as acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, and constipation.

Some research suggests that aloe vera has immune-boosting properties due to its antioxidant content, helping the body fight off infections and illnesses. You can find it in some natural toothpaste and mouthwash products due to its antibacterial properties. I'm sure there are many more benefits I haven't mentioned.

I always keep an aloe vera plant indoors. This poor plant was the victim of this lotion formula, as the outdoor ones are all wilted and won't be seen until summer.

Here's how I made it:

What you'll need:

100 ml aloe vera gel
2.5 ml Vitamin E oil
40 ml virgin coconut oil
7 g beeswax
100 ml almond oil (or any preferred oil. (infused with aloe vera leaves but optional.)
Essential oil of your choice (popular options include rosemary, lavender, chamomile, and tea tree oil for skincare due to their calming and antibacterial properties)

I've cut a few of its leaves.

I scraped the gelatinous juice inside, blended it, and set it aside.

I chopped the rest of the leaves and mixed them with 100 ml of oil.

Then I heated it in a double boiler until the oil changed to a somewhat golden-green color.

Next, I strained and set it aside.

In a double boiler, I melted the beeswax.

Once melted, I added the virgin coconut oil and then the aloe vera-infused oils, following with the aloe vera juice. I stirred until thoroughly mixed. Then, I removed it from the heat and let it cool in the freezer for at least 15 minutes.

After cooling, I blended it until creamy and added the vitamin E and essential oils. I blended it again before transferring it to a sterilized container.

I have added peppermint to increase skin blood circulation, blended it with grapefruit for freshness, then added lavender for a floral scent and rosemary for some herbal scent.

Since this lotion contains natural ingredients and no preservatives, it's best to store it in a cool, dark place and use it within a few weeks to ensure freshness and effectiveness.

It gives me peace of mind knowing that this lotion is full of goodness and has no harsh chemicals that will harm my body.

I hope I have inspired you to make your own homemade aloe vera lotion.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

wow, this lotion would be really nice and tender on the skin since it's made with natural ingredients. Nice work

Thank you. Yes and it also rewarding to create something wholesome. :)

The pictures in this post are so beautiful!! Especially the one with the aloe vera potted plant sitting in front of the rain spattered window -- love it!! It is very interesting how you used the leaves as well as the gel! I want to give this a try as I am getting very serious about skin care and try to use aloe gel daily but sometimes life is too busy to allow for getting fresh gel from my plants each day. Thanks so much for posting this, your posts have been my favorite on hive recently. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the pictures and post inspiring. You have a good eye for detail, noticing the spattered window :) I used the pulp because it contains some beneficial properties, such as proteins, lipids, amino acids, antioxidants, and vitamins (including Vitamin E). It will also help prolong the product's shelf life. I totally understand the challenge of balancing daily schedules and skincare routines. I'm thrilled to hear that my post is your favorite recently; it means a lot to me. Thank you again! I hope you enjoy crafting your aloe lotion soon.

Oh, but this is amazing! 🪴 I want to give it a go. Can I ask where you sourced the beeswax? And the essences? The consistency looks great! And it lasts a few months?

I'm glad you are interested in trying it out, you can typically find the beeswax and essential oil at health food stores or online stores. yes the consistency looks great and it should last couple of months if prepared and and stored properly. Feel free to reach if you have any questions along the way. Enjoy making your own lotion. :)

wow, great job !

i also have aloe barbadensis and didn't know what to do with it until now, apart from taking the gel internally.
Thank you for your inspiration.
however, i don't have any beeswax or almond oil here.
i have coconut oil and lavender essential oil. is that enough? and what else can i use?

do you use your cream only for the face, or also for the hair or for sunburn and wounds?

best regards ! :)

Thank you, it will work without the beeswax. If you're not bothered by creamy lotion, you can make aloe Vera oil Instead by blending the aloe Vera and oil then heat them up in a double boiler. Strain and keep In a clean container, add a few drops of your lavender essential oil. . It is great for skin, hair and any skin issues. Hope that helps.

I use aloe vera cream everywhere :)

You can use any oil you like. Almond, sunflower, avocado. Or just plain coconut. Measure 1 cup of blended aloe Vera, add 2-3 cups of oil.

thanks for your description ! i will try it out! :)

You're very welcome, I find it very moisturising and lovely consistency. Seems stable so far. keep in a dark, cold place to prevent oxidation as no preserves added, I keep mine in the fridge. :)
