Vegetables are plants that have a strong special relationship to water, other plants also have that bond but vegetable plants have an even stronger bond and it is very important to properly water vegetable farms and gardens because of how crucial water management is for healthy plant growth and increased yield.
Rainfall our major source of water has been a major source of life for some time but now rainfall is not enough anymore because the timing could be wrong for farms and gardens sometimes the gap could be longer than expected and it affects plants that need the gap to be a lot closer.
That is where we need mechanized watering systems to come in and fill in those gaps till the rain picks up again every year there is a form of modification to mechanized farming systems from ancient Egypt where the river Nile was the water source to this day with a lot of technological advancement.
Understanding mechanized watering system.
Mechanized watering systems involve using designed machines to move water from a source like a river to our farm or garden. It's of different types like drip irrigation, sprinkler systems or automated watering schedules I am making use of the is surface irrigation where water moves along the surface of the farm for the sprinkler systems the water is sprayed over the crop like rainfall.
Benefits of mechanized watering system
Consistent water supply, Water conservation and Reduced labour.
Steps to implement a mechanized watering system
Step 1
We have to access the farm or garden like the distance of the farm to the water source, and the type of soil we are farming on because some soil types retain and absorb water more than others, flooding is more likely to occur if the irrigation system supplies water faster than the soil can absorb it also different plants have different water needs say fluted pumpkin generally needs more water than spinach.
Step 2
Choose the system that benefits all of the properties in step one
Step 3
Involves the installation which can be done by yourself from the user manual or if you still don't fully understand it then I will recommend YouTube with good educational videos that will help but then what if you are staying in an area without Internet well there's another idea I suggest asking from other farmers who have a knowledge of it or getting a professional.
Then we need a schedule either once a week, twice a week or three times a week which also depends on step one and also how hard the sun is heating the farm.
Maintenance of equipment
Tools like this need a serious level of maintenance to make it work longer, regular checks for leaks and malfunctions will help with that.
Mechanized watering is very good we have at least one since we can't predict how the rain each year will be, at this moment for me the rain has stopped abruptly for about 3 weeks and some plants are drying up and trying to get mechanized watering systems that are moveable especially if your farms and gardens are far apart you can easily move the systems from one farm to another.
