Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. I am very happy, finally to be given the time and opportunity to return to participate and contribute to the Homesteading Community. What story will I share this time? keep watching.
We know, the homesteading lifestyle is becoming something that is popular and favored by many people today. We all know, it is very difficult to implement the Homesteading lifestyle totally and thoroughly. However, we can start by trying to grow useful vegetables in our homes to get crops that we can consume ourselves. One of the farming methods favored by many people today is gardening or growing vegetables with a hydroponic system.
I've been doing hydroponic farming since 2017, I feel hydroponics can be a solution for self-sufficient food for the community. The problem is, not everyone understands and understands hydroponics. Therefore, some training on the introduction of hydroponics is often carried out by various government agencies or educational institutions.
A few days ago, last Friday to be exact. I was invited to be a speaker about introducing beginner hydroponics to the community. This is my first experience as an instructor at a government event such as a family or district government office. Usually, I prefer to provide hydroponic training at school activities or village community activities.
I am not an expert on agriculture or hydroponics. I am just someone who is doing hydroponic farming since six years ago. To be honest, I don't think I deserve to be a hydroponics instructor. Moreover, teaching hydroponics to the public like mothers. However, I feel challenged to share my gardening experience and hopefully inspire the community, especially the women in Aur Sub-District in Medan City Village.
I divided the hydroponic training to the people of the Aur Medan City sub-district in several stages. In the first stage, I explained and described what hydroponics is. Many people apparently don't know about hydroponics. When I brought some examples of vegetables and hydroponic media during the training. Many of the participants in the hydroponic training were amazed and curious about why vegetables could grow in water. They think, all plants or vegetables can only grow on the ground.
There was one big challenge when I started this training. The hydroponic training participants and I have different age gaps, knowledge gaps and also social gaps. The majority of my hydroponic training participants are mothers who are busy taking care of the household, cooking, serving their husbands and some are also working. Therefore, I do not force all participants to hear what I have to say. I focus on participants who are interested only.
It took me nearly half an hour to provide education and an introduction to the hydroponic system. Almost all the participants were very interested in hearing my explanation. After that, I started for the second stage, namely introducing the tools and materials used for hydroponic farming. The participants were also more curious and interested after I explained about the rockwool used for sowing seeds and the planting medium. Here, a number of questions arose from the training participants which made this hydroponic training an interesting venue for discussion.
After getting to know what hydroponics is, what are the materials for doing hydroponics and what are the hydroponic installation systems and media that can be used. I continued the discussion and training on vegetable seeds. Seeding is the most important stage when we carry out agricultural or plantation activities. It doesn't matter whether we do conventional farming or hydroponic farming. Seeding is the key to success. Seeds that are sown properly will produce good and optimal plants.
The seeding process cannot only be done with theoretical players. We can just know and understand about seeding theory. But, if we don't apply archers, is the theory really true? I try to practice what I explained earlier to the hydroponic training participants. I invited the participants, who were mostly women, to come to the front desk one by one and I gave instructions about sowing vegetable seeds in rockwool.
In the early stages, the participants seemed to have difficulty seeding. The vegetable seeds were very small in size, and it made it difficult for the participants to get the seeds into the rockwool. However, after trying it over and over again and understanding the trick. The participants can do very well.
After giving tutorials and how to sow seeds with a hydroponic system. I also held questions and answers to the participants. From my conclusion, the participants were very interested in trying to grow vegetables with a hydroponic system at home. The participants thought that using land to be productive and producing food products such as vegetables would lead to a better life.
I did a two hour hydroponics training. After that, the trainees and I took a group photo. It was a very different experience, I am very happy to be able to share information and inspiration with the participants who were present earlier. That's all my story this time. See you at another time.
