Yesterday morning I woke up pretty sore still and got my post written while the second day of the PDC was going on. I finally found a working stream for it eventually and was able to keep up with it for most of the morning. In the end Danny Noppert won for his first win in a long while.
I worked on my planting plan after getting the boys to school.
I stopped into the greenhouse to check on things and as I was looking around I found that my tobacco had sprouted, well it volunteered VERY readily. This is a super good thing to see since I spread seeds ALL over the farm in hopes of naturalizing it here. I will know better as the months go on as I should see it start poking up all over. All this in the greenhouse will have to get removed or moved as the greenhouse will have to get tilled for the summer planting.
Finally out in the garden before 10am I got all the irrigation lines laid out.
Next was to pull the plastic out and flake it out. It is SOOOOO much nicer now that I have just the 3 large sheets to open up.The rows are all evenly spaced, the holes are all equal sized and open, and it makes it so much faster than how I had been doing it.
After a bit of a rest I headed back out to get rocks and weights on all the edges of the plastic. If I'm going to have boulders pulled up out of the ground I might as well use them.
All day clouds were streaming by that were just beginning to build up and drop minor bits of rain. It made it so I had to keep my planting plan in the tool shed to keep it dry.
Then began the seeding. I started on the south end of the garden with the 2 rows of squash. Only one row of summer squash this year so I am not having to be picking every single day.
I'm trying these 2 types of carrots together sort of like radishes and carrots. One is longer than the other so I hope they pair well.
Then I got the chard row planted before I had to go pick the boys up from school.
Once back home I was back out and got the kale seeds planted. The Tronchuda is the best for dealing with bugs as it is a huge flat leaf kale with no frills to hide the bugs. It does super well in hot temps too.
Next was getting the scallion and rutabaga seeds in the ground. I've never grown rutabaga before so this will be interesting.
The flat of Egypt beets I used up the seed pack before going to my saved seeds. My saved seeds are not pure and got mixed as when I have grown them I get some white roots in the mix.
My two rows of bean this year will be just Jade. The whole goal of this year is to limit the amount of daily harvesting I have to do which the main is the summer squash but then also the beans later in the season. The Jade are one of the best beans in my opinion as they get big, fat, and juicy which is perfect in summer.
Next was the basil in a row and the next row split between the two types of cabbage. The cabbage I grew last year and they do great here. I have seeds coming for 2 other cabbages which will go in next to this row. At that point I had largely run myself out of stuff to plant as I'm waiting on seeds to deliver.
The sheep needed their new bale so I went out and got it rolled into their pen. The bale was falling apart a bit but it made it in and I got the cage up around it before the animals dove in.
I found the asshat chickens have been laying eggs under the Tardis so I have to spend time filling the gap to keep them out. Now that the bales are out of the way I can.
I decided I'd put some peas in the pole garden so stuffed them into the first row. I still have the 2 middle rows which I'm figuring on one being Fortex pole beans and the other sunflowers. The only thing I have left to plant on hand is the red potatoes which I have pulled from the basement and ready to go.
Despite my rather sore body I managed a bit of time at the board and am again quickly dialing myself in on aim. It falls apart after a bit but I can get into pretty good rhythms for a bit.
The Kraken played the Coyotes and OF COURSE they blew them out 5-0, when it doesn't matter at the end of the season.... FIGURES!! Days late and a lot of goals short...
My skin is still being a bitch so I didn't get terribly long soaking.
Something borked on the coop controller so I have to dink with it today. I get the new Uno R4 wifi so I am going to upload the code to it then swap it out and see if it is the problem or if I have to troubleshoot farther. The RTC might be the problem in which case I will likely switch to the onboard on the R4 but that will require a bit of work.
Today I will get the red potatoes planted, boys to and from school, J has running club today, I'll transplant tobacco plants, put up the fence for the peas in the main garden, plant the pole beans and sunflower seeds, maybe get the wires strung for the peas in the pole garden, and try filling the void beneath the Tardis with scrap fence to keep the birds out.
