In preparation for the arrival of my new fly line yesterday I grabbed the reel and gave it a good cleaning and oiling.
The wd-40 took all the grime and gunk off with the help of the brush.
Then I washed it in soapy water which got all the wd-40 off.
I was super stoked to find that the Hoppes #9 oil is perfectly fine for the reel, which I happen to have a bottle of. The reel is super smooth compared to prior.
The Euros are ongoing and Spain beat Germany right at the last minute.
Mid morning I my line delivered. I love the fly box that came with the line.
I spooled the backing on then flaked out the fly line on the floor so I could attach them together. I reeled the line on and then found that I had screwed up and wound it the wrong direction. The drag wasn't working so I had to unspool the entire thing into a tub then respool it all back on the correct direction.
Seriously, I'm sick of seeing France progress. Portugal was so close but then threw it away on penalties. No more of CR7's pissy face on the screen.
It's to be 106F on Wednesday so I went out and installed a shade tarp for the sheep. I nailed it to the hut, tied it to a rod pounded into the bale, then tied it to the fence. It about doubles the shaded area for them and is right next to the bale so they don't have to go far. I will add more water tubs too, maybe under the shade to try and keep the water cooler.
Zero rain and minimal wind is expected so it should be safe for the next week or two.
Everyone went to town but I stayed and got a bunch of mowing done around the farm. I started with the inner yard and the the main path.
Next I mowed around the hot tub and the area between it and the play set. I leave the mass of tall plants as they will be flowering soon. Then I can hack them down for late summer.
Then I headed to the creek and mowed the area between it and the potato garden.
I was hot and tired by then so called it for the day and drug the mower back up the hill to the tool shed.
The boys had a blast at Ninja Nation and we will likely be taking them back every now and then. They have all the obstacles of the Ninja Warrior course with a bunch tamed down for the kids. They spent an hour there and punch cards are available that reduce the cost.
They had made it back to the farm and I was out in the garden picking a bunch of rutabaga that have gotten big enough.
I hacked the tops off and saved the smallest of the leaves as they had no bugs. It was 7 pounds in all.
I filled the tub with the tops which all went to the sheep who instantly devoured them all.
The rutabagas got washed off really well before going to the house.
Got a bit at the board and was getting numerous 85 or 81s until I finally dropped the 2nd dart in the triple.
For dinner @stryeyz grilled veggies to go with the meal.
Our friends had to take off. With the heat she had no desire to be driving across the state in it, specially through the basin that will be scorching. It's also nice to know that we can get a rig that big into and out of our farm...
It was nearly 10 when we got out to soak.
Today is only supposed to be 95F but the house cooled off pretty well overnight so I will close it up soon to keep the cool in for the day. Euros are on again and I hope England loses, I have more mowing to do, weeds to pull, peas to harvest, need to reset the coop door opener as the time has drifted nearly a half hour late, then likely grill for dinner tonight.
