Charging, PDC, UTD, LiPo Packs Disassembly, Bucking Tree, Hauling Rounds, Kraken - Thursday

in #hive-11430829 days ago

Yesterday I dug into my small stack of LiPo 18650 cells to find some that I can build a pack for my remote Lora/Mesh node that I want to mount in the tree. Put them on my charger and let them go for the day. These cells are not the best.

PDC is on this weekend and I caught the first day first round where Barney got whooped by Searle.

Man Utd played so I had them on split screen for a while. Utd really are a shit team this year and no matter who they sign it won't do much for a lot matches until there is some kind of cohesion between the players.

I had FINALLY found a good tear down video for the scooter batteries. Aussie or NZ dude is super funny but very clearly showed how best to yank one of these apart. I've had one in the tool shed for years that I had popped open but never broke down. Now I know how to easily and am not leery of the voltages.

This pack being older and never charged had the cells all sitting at 3.86 volts, the lower cutoff for the packs.

In the afternoon I headed out to the shop to get a chain sharpened for the saw.

IMG_20241024_140125.jpg

I didn't need the freshly sharpened chain as I still had one on the saw. I hauled it out to the tree I dropped and got to work limbing then bucking it. It was a live Douglass fir so the rounds are going to have to sit for the winter.

Having the trunk on the hill made it rather easy to cut. I just pulled on it and it slid down the hill so I could keep lopping rounds off.

Before too long I had it all cut up and read y to haul to the yard.

I got the truck and drove it out to load the rounds. I loaded the nice dry rounds from the ex-standing dead tree in the front and the live rounds in the back.

That was so I could toss the live rounds out close to the curing area and the dry ones to the house wood side. I was kinda beat up just from that bit of work and after parking my truck headed back inside.

I put the NHL channel on for the lead up to the days matches and worked on the cells some more. I had to pop all the tin off that connected all the cells so I could test each one.

IMG_20241024_162150.jpg

Using my multimeter I tested the voltage of each cell. All the blue cells were great and over 4 volts.

IMG_20241024_164204.jpg

The older beige cells were not so great. They sat at the low end cutoff for the cells of 3.86 volts, really just need charging.

IMG_20241024_164951.jpg

But I DID find some bad cells that tested at 1.5 volts. I may try and drain them and recharge to see if it will reset them. They got put aside and marked.

Got a bit at the board and got a bunch of 120s then this one was damn near the closest I could have gotten to a max without getting it. The dart was against the wire. SO CLOSE!

The Kraken played. Stupid NHL with the late games. They started out good but in the end got beat in overtime.

While @stryeyz was at bible study I got the 3rd pack pulled apart and tested.

IMG_20241024_195128.jpg

Ended up with about 100 cells. I will be using a number to make a big 6volt pack for the mesh node to work off of with the solar panel charger.

I went out to soak but only got a half hour in before heading for be My face went bad and it took a while to get the muscles to relax enough I could finally fall asleep.

Got the boys to school this morning, PDC is on, I have an IFS appointment, more packs to tear down, I still haven't dealt with the greenhouse yet, the sheep need a new bale, and I will try to keep the pain at bay the best I can.

Nice firewood my friend!👍
Always good to have a stack curing, it’s like money in the bank !😇

Exactly. I love to have a mix of good dry to burn right away and the stack curing to split later. Granted I have three 100+ft fir trees that will be coming down soon so I've got a pretty stuffed piggy bank.

Sounds like a very good stack, you’re well prepared for this winter…..and later!👍
