Nice, you could still put a spear at the end, but cut off enough of the staff to hollow out and cap over it? Then widdle the spear side down a bit to fit tight inside the cap and maybe add a set screw.

Sounds interesting, though I'm having a hard time imagining what you're describing.

If you use a 6" spearhead, cut 8" off the bottom of the staff. Drill a hole down the middle of the piece you cut off big enough to nestle the spear head into(connect the spearhead into the staff end). Of course, the spearhead would need to be thinner than the staff.

Carve out 2" at the bottom of the staff into a cone shape and match that shape to the spearhead cover side, so it nestles tightly. If tight enough, no set screw is needed and you can pop the cover off quickly if you need to. If you don't trust the cap to stay by itself, add a set screw about an inch up the cone connector area.
