Hot Off The Press! ..
I have some cool news fresh off the vine .. Okay, enough of the silly sayings. I can hear you in my ear. So what's the news? Something I already sort of hinted at in a previous post.
MORE FLOWER BUDS!!!
Yes! There are what appear to be two new Cattleya Orchid flower buds emerging from another flower sheath on a separate pseudobulb.
Here they are snuggled together in one flower sheath..
I'll zoom out a little so you can see them from a distance..
I didn't think we were going to have anymore than the one flower this year, and truthfully I would have been quite content with that. BUT.. If she is going to give us more, we'll take it! The flower that recently emerged and opened a week ago, is still looking as good as the first day. The flowers last approximately three to four weeks, so by the time this one is done we may have a couple of more to enjoy.
Our Cattleya Orchid gets plenty of sunshine, especially in the morning. Cattleyas love bright direct sun, unlike the Phalaenopsis Orchids. They like more bright lit areas without direct sunlight. If you look there in the background, you can see one of our Dendrobiums peaking her canes over top of the Cattleya. Also our Vanda Orchid hanging in the background soaking up some warm sun rays as well. They all are direct sun loving Orchids.
I will have to write again soon to fill you in on why there is a bucket back there by the wall.. That's for another day soon.
“I had come to love the space, and I could see why Lady Anna had too. The orchids were positively glorious. She'd tagged each flower with its proper botanical name, but I favored the pet names she'd given each bloom. For instance, a stunning pink 'Cattleya' was named "Lady Catalina." And a yellow 'Oncidium,' which to me looked like a flock of ladies in fluffy party dresses, was called "Lady Aralia of the Bayou.”
