So I bought a few young summer edible annuals a month ago in pots, thinking I'd be able to put them in their final out positions on the allotment by last week, but the night time temperatures have been a bit on the chilly side, and they're forecast to be so for another week, so all my plants are potted on and still waiting to go out!
It's getting a bit silly - I bring them in most nights it's below 9 degrees, the minimum for these is supposed to be 10, but needs must!
Sweet Potatoes
I potted these into the largest pots, thinking that they are tubers, you can see they are ready to climb!
Butternut Squash...
Look how big these are already, too big for their pots and also ready to go.
Tomatoes (and more squash)
These are the silliest - they are set to go in the growbag in the garden but it's just too damned cold.
They are flowering already (so at least they are obviously happy) but need staking!
Strawberries....
Actually these are staying out all the time, they can handle it and I must say are looking good, along with some companion plants in one tray... and flowing, one of the things I'm looking forward to most of all and I'm doubling maybe trebling my production next year, love home grown strawberries!
Next Tuesday/ Wednesday - they are going out!
I'm away this coming weekend so can't do anything on the allotment, but the night time temperatures look good from the middle of next week so hopefully by then I'll be able to do some final planting out.
I noticed a few people have put their outside tomatoes and squash out already, but they don't look too happy, and I was chatting to someone this week who said you don't gain much by getting them in a week early, so I think I can still expect a decent crop.
I'd rather be safe after all this nurturing!
