Wild food foraging

Spring is slowly showing up, bringing up new hope after winter. Gold sunbeams are warming up the earth and early flowers shone in all kinds of colors. More opportunities are coming up to support our system and soul with wild food.
I made salad today, using wild herbs and flowers.

Last year I let some of the lamb's lettuce flowered and I collected the seeds after. Obviously many of the seeds got spreaded by the wind through the garden. Today I found a very nice surprise finding it all over the garden.

I collected some dandelion leaves. Young leaves taste most delicious.

I was surprised that wild garlic already came from the ground. I picked a few leaves. I'm always careful about it, picking it leaf by leaf, not to pick up any other plant that looks similar but could be poisonous.

Foraging the woods I found lungwort flowers. Those are great for recovering from respiratory diseases and it's good for virus protection.

There are many Primrose flowers shining in yellow beauty. They taste really nice and sweet and they're full of vitamins.
It detoxes our body, especially the bladder.

I see daisies as tiny beauties with big spirits.
They also taste sweet and have many good effects on our body.

There are carpets of corn speedwell flowers all around the garden. They are a bit bitter, but great for our gut health.

I picked a bit of dead nettle, but not too much as it's kind of bitter. The flowers taste sweet and a bit acidic.

I made the salad by cooking potatoes in the skin. I peeled them after and cut them into small cubes.

I added cleaned lamb's lettuce, dandelion leaves, wild garlic, lungwort, primrose, daisies, corn speedwell and dead nettles.
I also added fresh parsley and thyme, salt, homemade apple cider vinegar and homemade extra virgin olive oil.

Oh wow, this looks absolutely beautiful but at the same time delisious. I am craving a good salad, as in the summer months here it is too hot to grow salad greens. Even the dandelions are not growing due to the extreme heat. I have some random pockets of rocket growing, but things are slow on the salad front. Thanks for sharing this awesome post!

I'm pretty lucky with the salad here as we live in a very green land.
Rocket is great, I also really like garden cress.
Flowers are amazing in the salad and it makes it so pretty.

Have you ever tasted garlic chive flowers? It is such an amazing flower. You are indeed lucky. I am craving some homegrown salad because the salad we can buy is not that good.

Chives flowers are are beautiful in a salad and it's a strong spice too, I really like to use it.

Almost too beautiful to eat @blackberryskunk! Is that evening primrose? I have it in the garden but the flowers look totally different. Oh how many wonderful wild flowers you have that I only dream about. I wish a few of those seeds would blow over my way and self germinate all over my gardens

It's wild primrose (Primula vulgaris) and it's interesting it's not that closely related to evening primrose, but coming from the same family of Onagraceae.
Wild primrose can be usually found on forest ground with rich soil.
Would be nice if I could send you some seeds with the wind!

I sometime saw them in gardens, but I don't have it. Do you maybe know if evening primrose is edible?

If I say yes do you want to know what they taste like?! My goats love them....well they used to when they broke into my herb gardens. Now that they are secure - both my herbs and my loveable mischiefs the evening primrose doesn't do as well. Evening primrose flowers are edible BUT I have never eaten them... terrible I know

On the contrary! They are exceptionally finicky eaters. The theory about them eating tins is a ridiculous one. My goats are so fussy that if another goat sniffs their food they won't touch it. But they understand self medicating so I guess there was something that they needed from the evening primrose.....

I had no idea half of the ingredients were edible, let alone jampacked with so many healthy nutrients! Potatoes in a salad? Interesting!

I think I would add fresh blackberries (antioxidants) to offset the bitter taste of the other ingredients and some nuts for crunch (protein and healthy fats).

Nature creates most wonderful things.
I like potatoes in a salad because it reduces on the bitterness and also fills up the stomach for longer time. I also like to use beans sometime instead of potatoes.
Blackberries would be great inside, but there not in the season yet, I have to remember your idea and try it in summer.
Nuts or seeds would be great inside, I like to use them sometimes in a salad too.
